Barcelona is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s a place that’s both aware of its history while also pushing constantly toward the future. When it comes to architecture, art, food, and drink, Barcelona is always innovating. So it’s no surprise that the city has a massive, rapidly-growing craft beer scene. Most of the best bars are centrally located as well, so it’s easy to get to several different bars in one night. Best of all, unlike in some places, drinking craft beer in Barcelona doesn’t mean you’re stuck with typical American or British pub food. Many of the bars also feature menus with excellent local meats, cheeses, and tapas, so it’s perfectly easy to go from bar to bar, having a pint & a bite to eat at each. Here’s my guide to the best craft beer in Barcelona, including beer bars, breweries, taprooms, and bottle shops.

The Best Craft Beer Bars in Barcelona

Cerveseria BierCaB

Cerveseria BierCaB (website) is a beer nerd paradise in Eixample. Eixample is packed full of great craft beer bars, including the next few on this list. With 30 taps, it has one of the best beer selections in Barcelona. Some are local, while the rest are from all over Europe. There’s also a small, but high-quality bottle selection. The staff members clearly know their stuff, and they’re happy to help guide you to the beer you’re looking for.

It’s all a little bit of a beer bar cliche at this point, but give me classic rock & metal in a place with empty Russian River beer bottles on the walls, and I’ll be happy.

CocoVail Beer Hall

CocoVail Beer Hall (website) has one of the largest tap selections in Barcelona, with 24 taps filling their chalkboard. Most are Spanish, with a few Belgian beers as well.

There are also lots of TVs for sports, plus board games.

Between the TVs, the full food menu (complete with wing nights), and events such as College Night, CocoVail Beer Hall feels like an American bar without being overly in-your-face about it.

La Bona Pinta

Located near La Sagrada Familia, La Bona Pinta serves craft beer and only craft beer, boasting that they don’t do coffee, cocktails, or anything else. They have 9 taps, plus a further 200+ cans and bottles.

It’s a corner spot with a couple of tables out front, then more seating in a back room. They also serve snacks, such as cheese, meat, olives, and hummus.

The Growler Barcelona

The Growler Barcelona has ten taps of craft beer plus a large selection of bottles & cans.

Address: C/ de Roger de Llúria, 81, 08009 Barcelona, Spain (map)

Humble Beer

Humble Beer has a nice beer selection of 10 taps, plus around 50 cans & bottles. On my visit, about half the taps were Spanish, while the rest were from England, Norway, & Belgium.

I chatted for ages with the friendly bartender who updated me on the local beer scene in Barcelona, letting me know about new bars & breweries that were opening. He also had excellent taste in music, playing the White Stripes, Wilco, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, & the like.

Address: C/ del Rosselló, 185, 08036 Barcelona, Spain (map)

Conesa Beer Barcelona

Conesa Beer Barcelona (website) has 12 taps, as well as a small fridge with bottles and cans. They focus on Spanish beers.

There is also a tapas food menu available, plus they show live football matches on a projector screen.

Kaelderkold

Kaelderkold (website) is another great bar just off La Rambla in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. It’s an unassuming place in an alley next to a church, but inside it’s a nice bar.

craft beer barcelona kaelderkold 700x933

The bar has 17 taps, with a mix of beer from sister pub Ølgod Brewpub, other local beers, and beer from all over Europe. It’s a small, intimate bar with just a counter to sit at, but that makes it great for solo travelers and others who are looking for some conversation.

La Rambla and the surrounding areas have tons of touristy bars, so it’s great that there are some off-the-beaten-path craft beer and tapas places like Kaelderkold around.

Craft Barcelona

Craft Barcelona (website) is another bar in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. It’s tucked down an alleyway, which is always a good sign. Look for the Brewdog sign & Catalonian flag, near the Cathedral. Most visitors will walk right past the alley entrance while they are sightseeing, but in addition to being right around the corner from some cool Roman ruins, Craft Barcelona is a nice classic Barcelona beer & tapas bar.

craft beer barcelona 700x933

Craft Barcelona has a little bit of everything. There’s a selection of 9 taps, plus some local bottles. They also offer true pintxos, as you take what you want from the counter, then count the toothpicks to pay at the end. Each one is €1.

The bar also has entertainment, featuring open mic nights, music, and stand-up comedy. When I visited, a beer tour had just entered, but there was plenty of room for everyone. In a city overrun with touristy bars, Craft Barcelona is a nice bridge between a traditional Barcelona bar experience and a quiet craft beer bar.

Lambicus Bar & Lambicus Shop

Lambicus (website) is the best place to go for Belgian beer in Barcelona. More accurately, they operate two spots right around the corner from each other off of Paral-lel: Lambicus Bar & Lambicus Shop.

Between the bar & bottle shop, Lambicus offers a broad selection of hundreds of different Belgian beers, plus other selections from around Spain as well.

Ale&Hop is a cool, cozy Barcelona beer bar with around 10 beer taps.

Chivuo’s Slow Street Food & Craft Beer

Chivuo’s (website) has 3 locations in Barcelona, plus 1 in Madrid. The one I visited was located a couple of blocks off La Rambla.

The bar has 6 taps of local beer, plus sandwiches, fries, and other snacks. It’s a cool little corner spot that feels like a nice neighborhood spot to meet friends.

The Best Breweries in Barcelona

Garage Beer Co

Garage Beer (website) is one of the larger new breweries in Barcelona, and they’re doing some exciting stuff. Their original taproom has 10 taps, mostly their own, but also a couple of guests. There’s a selection of some local & import bottles as well.

They’re another spot filled with friendly, knowledgeable bartenders. I talked with one bartender, Esteban, for a bit, and while I had a New England-inspired IPA & an excellent meat & cheese plate, he filled me in on some other places I should check out in the area.

The front room of Garage has a small bar to sit at, but head further back, and there’s a nice relaxing space with couches & places to relax.

There is also a 2nd Garage Beer Company location in Poblenou that has up to 20 taps of craft beer, plus pizzas.

I had the Sarda, which was delicious, plus their focaccia makes for an excellent snack. The taproom is just 100 meters from the beach & also has a big patio outside. With a strong playlist of Spanish rock, plus other bands like the Eagles of Death Metal & Queens of the Stone Age, it has an excellent rock & indie vibe.

Address: C/ del Consell de Cent, 261, 08011 Barcelona, Spain (map) – Eixample

Espiga Brewery & Craft Beer Shop

Espiga Brewery (website), which is based in nearby Sant Llorenç d’Hortons, has 2 taprooms & bottle shops in Barcelona. Each sells its own beer, plus also has selections from other breweries.

Their Sagrada Familia location has 4 taps, then a fridge with their own cans & bottles in the front room, then a back room with more seating, plus fridges with more bottles & cans from other brewers.

Ølgod Brewpub

The sibling pub of Kaelderkold, Ølgod Brewpub (website) has 20 taps of craft beer brewed on-site by head brewer Fabrizio under the name Ølgod Beer Lab (ØBL). Unlike most Barcelona beer bars & breweries, they offer flights.

olgod brewpub barcelona 700x525

The taproom, just off Rambla del Raval, also offers a selection of beers from other breweries, including bottles.

Address: Carrer de l’Hospital, 74, 08001 Barcelona, Spain (map)

Abirradero

Abirradero (website) is in a somewhat different area, but it’s still within a reasonable walking distance from central Barcelona. The bar happened to be located near my hotel, the excellent Hotel Barcelona Universalimage 5616389 12525324. It’s just across Paral-lel, making it a great option if you’re staying in this area of Barcelona. While there are other bars & restaurants around, the only other craft beer spot nearby is Brew Pub Le Sec, which was closed when I visited.

craft beer barcelona abirradero 700x525

Abirradero has a phenomenal selection of beer, which can be enjoyed inside or on their large patio. Their 40 taps are the largest selection I saw. Amazingly about 75% are unique to them, brewed from their affiliated ICA (Instituto de la Cerveza Artizans). This craft beer brewing school provides opportunities for budding brewers to hone their craft. This school & bar truly make Barcelona’s craft beer scene unique. When there are this many taps available for showcasing creations, it allows brewers an opportunity to make something that stands out. While a selection this varied can be hit-or-miss, there are plenty of interesting beers to be found if you’re willing to poke through the list. Also, they serve each style beer at the optimal temperature, which few bars are serious enough to do.

Maresme Brewery Taproom

Maresme Brewery Taproom (website) is a nice spacious and airy spot with an open garage door. It’s bright, with light wood and concrete, plus some cozy, high-back nooks.

maresme brewery barcelona 700x525

The brewery, which opened in 2017 just a bit up the coast in Montgat, specializes in hazy IPAs, but they brew other beers as well. Up to 15 at a time are featured across the taps.

Address: C/ de Sepúlveda, 164, 08011 Barcelona, Spain (map)

BlackLab Brewhouse & Kitchen

Opened in 2014, BlackLab Brewhouse & Kitchen (website) is located in a busy area of La Barceloneta, Barcelona’s busy waterfront area.

blacklab brewhouse barcelona 700x933

The brewery has a large space, plus a nice covered patio out front. All of the beer (10+ taps, but room for more) is brewed on-site. A brewpub in a location like this could easily be a tourist trap, but BlackLab makes legitimately good beer. I liked Claudia IPA, their most popular beer, a lot.

They also have a full food menu, including ramen, burgers, salads, nachos, and more.

BlackLab also has a 2nd location, a taproom in Eixample.

Caravelle

Caravelle (website) is first and foremost a brunch restaurant, inspired by the cafes of Melbourne, Australia. However, in addition to their excellent food (seriously, the pulled pork benedict on brioche is stellar), they also operate a small brewery.

brunch restaurant caravelle brewery barcelona 700x933

The restaurant serves 5 taps of their beer. Considering it’s such a small operation, the beers are highly-rated, and the NEIPA I had was quite good.

Address: C/ del Pintor Fortuny, 31, 08001 Barcelona, Spain (map)

Brew Pub Le Sec

Brew Pub Le Sec is a laid-back, neighborhood taproom in Poble-Sec. Get it?

They brew their own beer, but in addition to 4 of their own taps, they also have around 5 guest taps.

brew pub le sec barcelona 700x525

The beer names have music references, giving you a sense of the music played inside – ranging from rock & blues to reggae.

It’s a cozy brick & wood bar with art on the walls for sale, off the beaten path from crowded tourist areas.

Address: Carrer de Margarit, 52, 08004 Barcelona, Spain (map)

The Best Bottle Shops in Barcelona

OKasional Beer

OKasional Beer (website) is an excellent Barcelona bottle shop. There are 3 taps for drinking on-site, but there’s also a huge selection of hundreds of cans and bottles.

okasional beer barcelona bottle shop 700x525

The shop has a strong focus on Catalonian and Spanish craft beers, but there are also plenty of imports as well. Those who are looking for gluten-free and alcohol-free beers will also be satisfied. They also offer online ordering & shipping in Spain & Portugal.

Address: C/ de Casanova, 11, 08011 Barcelona, Spain (map)

While Barcelona’s craft breweries might not yet be achieving large distribution outside of Spain (aside from Garage), the local beer scene is outstanding. There are beer bars to suit whatever kind of place you’re looking for, and the breweries in the city are producing increasingly high-quality beer. It’s only a matter of time before Barcelona’s craft beer scene gets its proper recognition, but in the meantime, if you’re visiting the city, you can be a proper hipster & say you got to visit these bars & breweries first.
