Avondale, Arizona is a West Valley suburb of Phoenix. It’s mostly farmland & cookie-cutter housing communities, but it’s most famously known as the home of Phoenix Raceway. The track holds 2 NASCAR races a year, including the Championship, as well as many other notable racing events. As with most Phoenix suburbs (like nearby Goodyear), there’s not a ton going on, however there’s one great place for craft beer in Avondale: 8-Bit Aleworks.

8-Bit Aleworks
As you might surmise from the name, 8-Bit Aleworks is a video game-themed brewery.
But that’s not just a quick gimmick. Owners Ryan and Krystina Whitten are two passionate gamers & brewers who are fully committed to a brewery experience that merges the worlds of video games and craft beer.
Inside, you’ll find arcade games, as well as gaming consoles. Haven’t played NES or Super Nintendo in a while? 8-bit is the place to go.
Want to stick with something analog? There’s also an array of card games and board games available, with plenty of tables to play them on.
There are 14 taps of game-themed beers available (following a recent tap expansion). Flights are served in a genius way – on green pipes from Super Mario.
On Black Friday, 8-Bit Aleworks hosts a tap takeover featuring varieties of their Black Mage stout, each with different flavors. Get there early in the morning for the best selection.
You can bring your own food, or there’s a small selection of snacks including paninis and soft pretzels.
Outside, there’s a patio with views of the surrounding industrial park that 8-Bit Aleworks is located in. It’s a setting that allows them to have plenty of space.

Given the area’s rapid population growth, I’m sure there will be more beer bars & breweries in Avondale in the coming years. For now, 8-Bit Aleworks is the place to go.
