Richmond is one of the best areas of London for getting outdoors. Between Kew Gardens, the River Thames, and Richmond Park, there’s no better place to spend a sunny day. Best of all, it’s easily accessed via public transportation from central London, making Richmond a great day trip getaway from city life. Here are the best places for craft beer in Richmond, including craft beer bars, restaurants, and taprooms.

The Best Craft Beer Bars in Richmond

Tap Tavern Richmond

Tap Tavern is an excellent spot in the center of Richmond that still manages to have a neighborhood vibe despite its location in a busy area.

The brightly-lit bar has 20 rotating taps of craft beer including 3 casks (along with cans & bottles). The beer selection is mostly from around the UK, featuring breweries such as The Kernel, Siren, Verdant, Cloudwater, and Buxton.

There is also an excellent food menu featuring nice takes on typical pub food. For non-beer drinkers, Tap Tavern has a list of over 50 small-batch gins.

With live music & a big screen projector for events, Tap Tavern has been a popular gathering place down a quiet lane in Richmond since 2017.

The Botanist

If you had a pub right near the entrance of Kew Gardens, it would be hard to give it a better name than The Botanist.

The corner pub has tons of indoor space, plus a back garden and a patio. Indoors it’s warm, with a good variety of seating.

While the beer selection isn’t huge, it’s a nice place to visit before or after the gardens. The beer list includes a dozen or so cans & bottles, plus a few rotating taps from breweries such as Tiny Rebel, Siren, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Beavertown, and Camden.

In addition to the drinks, there’s a nice menu of bar snacks, also available as a nice combo as an alternative to a main dish.

The Prince’s Head

The Prince’s Head will look familiar to fans of the television show “Ted Lasso.” Exterior shots set the scene for the Richmond-based show, with the titular character living in a flat along an alley just off Richmond Green. The show’s characters frequent a pub called The Crown & Anchor, the interior of which is based on The Prince’s Head.

Although no filming has taken place inside The Prince’s Head, the pub has embraced its connection to the show, dedicating a corner to the fictional AFC Richmond.

In addition to its newfound fame with TV fans, The Prince’s Head has also been a nice local watering hole for over 300 years. While you’re there, have a pint from their couple of craft beer taps or cask ales. Football is life!
