Located at the northern end of Brooklyn, Greenpoint is an evolving neighborhood that is a mix of old & new. Greenpoint has a large Polish population (and therefore excellent Polish food). While the central areas near Manhattan Avenue still retain their historic charm, newer construction along the East River & Newtown Creek has brought many new people to the neighborhood as former industrial areas are getting redeveloped. Bordering Williamsburg, East Williamsburg, and Long Island City, Greenpoint has recently seen more new craft beer spots opening to go along with some older stalwarts. Here is a selection of great places for craft beer in Greenpoint, including breweries, beer bars, and bottle shops.

The Best Breweries in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Greenpoint Beer & Ale Co.

Greenpoint Beer & Ale Co. is located in a prominent spot at the northern edge of Greenpoint. The bar is a cool space, with a nice patio, large open doors, pinball, and even a roof deck. Atop the roof deck sits a beautiful water tower designed by local artist Tom Fruin.

Inside, the atmosphere is very much that of a sports bar, with several televisions tuned to games & a lively mood. There’s also a nice patio space available in the backyard.

The brewpub has about 18 taps of their beer, and while not prominently mentioned, flights are available so you can try them all. The beer selection is wide & tends to stray to the lighter side, with a lineup that’s much less IPA-heavy than a lot of breweries are these days. For non-beer drinkers, Keg & Lantern also has a full bar.

There’s a full pub food menu featuring sandwiches, salads, wings, burgers & more.

Keg & Lantern also recently opened a 2nd location in Red Hook that now functions as their main brewery.

Threes Brewing

Threes Brewing Greenpoint is one of a few locations of the brewery (the others are in Gowanus, Governors Island, & Huntington).

The vibe skews just a bit more upscale than other Brooklyn craft breweries, but the more intimate space is by design. The food menu is currently from Greenpoint Fish and Lobster.

Upstairs, there’s a hidden space called The Studio that’s only open occasionally, such as when the main space is hosting private events. While the main bar has 10 taps plus bottles and cans, the Studio only has 4 taps.

The Best Craft Beer Bars in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Tørst

Tørst is not just one of the best beer bars in Brooklyn, nor is it just one of the best in NYC, or even the United States. It has been named as one of the best beer bars in the world by many.

And it’s with good reason.Tørst does everything right.

First, let’s start with the beer. The beer bar was opened by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, the leader of Evil Twin.Tørst has a phenomenally well-curated list of 21 taps plus hundreds of cans & bottles. Whatever beer you’re in the mood for, you’ll find it here, even if it’s something rare. This is a place to broaden your horizons.

The clean Danish design of the bar, with its simple marble, metal, & wood (note how the wood tap handles match the color of each beer), lets the beer & food do the talking.

Ah yes, the food.Tørst’s food menu has changed over the years, but it has been excellent at every step. At one point, the bar was home to Luksus, the first ever restaurant to get a Michelin star for being a beer-focused restaurant. At the moment, the food menu leans toward bar snacks, but oh what snacks those are.

The warm she-wolf sourdough with house cultured butter is subtly stunning. It’s simple at its core, but it’s the perfect thing to soak up the strong beers served atTørst.

Browerij Lane opened in 1999, predating all of the other beer bars & breweries in Greenpoint, along with much of the neighborhood’s evolution.

The bar has a massive selection of craft beer housed in an intimate space, with 19 taps, plus hundreds of cans and bottles, including several from local Greenpoint mentioned above. Not only is it a great craft beer bar, it’s also a great bottle shop, as the selection is available to go.

The Brew Inn is known for its great food, as it has huge burgers that draw rave reviews. The menu also acknowledges Greenpoint’s Polish roots with kielbasa & pierogies. Inside, the decor is cozy & dark.

With 27 taps, The Brew Inn has plenty of beer choices, though the selection does lean almost entirely toward lighter lagers, pilsners, & IPAs.
