Hyatt has many hotels in and around Cancun, but until recently, all of these hotels were resorts. That’s all changed thanks to the recent opening of the Hyatt Place Cancun Airport. Not only is there finally a budget Hyatt in Cancun, but the chain has built an impressive property that avoids a depressing airport hotel feel.

Spoiler: The brand new Hyatt Place Cancun Airport is an excellent place to spend a night while in transit to or from CUN. Ready to book? Use the links below for the best deals!

Hyatt Place Cancun Airport Overview

The Hyatt Place Cancun Airport opened in November 2025. I visited during opening week, so I went with the expectation that there might be a few issues that one might encounter at any new hotel. Thankfully, our stay was mostly problem-free.

Book your hotel in Cancun now!

Since I wasn’t sure whether the hotel would be open yet, I waited until a couple of days before booking. The base rate for my stay was a reasonable $85 USD per night. Subsequent searches have shown pricing around $100 USD. That’s a bit cheaper than the nearby Marriott properties. It’s good to have another affordable hotel option that’s part of one of my two preferred brands, especially since there are no other nearby budget Hyatt properties, only resorts.

The Hyatt Place Cancun Airport is the closest hotel to CUN that’s not on the airport grounds, making it a very convenient place to stay. I spotted the seven-story hotel from a few blocks away, though, because of the road layout out front, we had to pass it and circle back a minute or two later. The hotel has 156 rooms.

Upon entering the hotel, I was impressed. I’ve stayed at a lot of Hyatt Places and Hyatt Houses, and they all tend to have a similar clean, but slightly sterile vibe. That’s not the case at the Hyatt Place Cancun Airport.

The lobby is spacious and airy, with unique stonework on the floors and walls. This design gives it a feel that’s inspired by Mayan ruins and Mexican architecture. The local building materials include Yucatán Macedonia stone and Santo Tomás stone.

There’s also a private security guard on site, either at the door or on patrol.

The front desk is right near the door. The bar and breakfast area is just past that, but more on that further below.

As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Angel, who introduced us to the brand new hotel. He quickly checked us in and recognized my Hyatt Globalist status.

Hyatt Place Cancun Airport Room Review

We were assigned room 622, which is on the top floor of the hotel. Angel told us we were the first people ever to stay in the room, which I’d never done before. As such, I knew we’d also be the first to potentially spot any issues.

The standard rooms vary in size, ranging from a cozy 252 to 314 square feet. This isn’t a ton of space, but it’s usually not a huge deal at an airport hotel that you’re staying in for just a night. Based on the map on the back of the door, ours appeared to be one of the larger rooms.

Our room had floor-to-ceiling windows and overlooked a large warehouse. Lower-floor views will be less impressive, but we could see Cancun International Airport in the distance. I watched planes landing on the nearby runway for a bit.

Given that the Hyatt Place is so close to the Cancun airport and our room faced it, I braced myself for loud noise. However, the hotel has phenomenal soundproofing.

Granted, takeoffs were taking place on the far runway, but I couldn’t hear the planes at all. This was the case for our entire stay. Not once did I hear a plane while inside.

There was a full-length mirror near the door, as well as a sitting area.

The sitting area also had a minifridge, tea and coffee, plus a couple of bottles of water.

The main room is split by a divider that includes shelves with real books.

A closet includes a safe, an ironing board, and a hair dryer.

Unfortunately, our room did not include a proper desk. Oddly, the hotel’s room images clearly show them, so I don’t know if we were somehow unlucky with the room we got, if the desks will be arriving later, or if there was a design change from these initial sample photos. There were at least some small tables that could be used in a pinch, but no full desk as of this writing.

We found the king-size bed comfortable. There’s a sitting chair next to it.

There are plenty of outlets near the bed, including USB ports (though they are the old USB-A variety, which already makes them dated). The power was strong, charging my phone quickly.

A TV screen is mounted on the wall across from the bed. I didn’t watch much on it, though I did notice that there are lots of sports channels.

Now the bathroom, which has a bit of a different layout than you would expect. The shower and toilet are in separate rooms, each with frosted glass doors. The small trash can in the bathroom is the only trash can in the whole room.

The privacy levels are lacking, to say the least. You can see the silhouette of your fellow traveler on the can or in the shower.

Each room is also small, and the sink area is outside each door. This area is not separated from the rest of the room, so there’s no way to step out of the shower and get dressed with any privacy.

All of this is fine if you’re a solo traveler or traveling with a partner where you’re fine with this level of intimacy, but others take note, so you can book separate rooms rather than share.

There also weren’t any automatic lights in these rooms, so I created a strobe effect in the room while trying to find the light for the toilet room in the dark. Oops.

The rainfall shower had a great temperature and water pressure.

The toiletries were the standard KenetMD shampoo, conditioner, and body wash I’ve seen at other Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels. Unfortunately, there was no shelf for your own toiletries, so these would have to go on the shower floor.

As we took inventory of the room and its amenities, we realized it was a bit warm. After fiddling with the thermostat a few times, it was clear the air conditioner wasn’t working.

I called down to the front desk, and it was fixed within 15 minutes without anyone even having to enter the room. I’m guessing something just hadn’t been turned on somewhere else.

I expected a few hiccups like this since I was the first person to stay in the room. It was no big deal. If you’re ever in the same situation, just let the hotel know.

Hyatt Place Cancun Airport Amenities

The hotel’s new hallway carpet felt plush, which you don’t often see these days. There was also an ice machine and a water station on our floor near the elevator.

Gym

The Hyatt Place Cancun Airport has a 24-hour gym, which is helpful for anyone with jet lag or a flight at an odd time. It’s located on the first floor.

The gym has plenty of equipment, including three treadmills, two stair climbers, two bikes, two rowing machines, and free weights.

There are also a couple of TVs and a restroom.

Pool

I wasn’t expecting much from the pool area, since it’s outside next to the parking lot, but it turned out to be a nice space.

Despite being next to the parking lot, entrance, and a busy road, there’s good privacy, as well as plenty of sun chairs with huge umbrellas. These plants will grow to provide even more shade and seclusion over time.

The pool itself isn’t huge, but it’s long enough that one could theoretically swim some short laps, though it’s just 1.1 meters deep.

I stuck my hand in the water, but I couldn’t tell if it was heated. It was warmer than some of the resort pools I’d been in recently, but colder than others. It at least felt warm enough for swimming in November.

Business & Conference Center

Near the entrance, I spotted a sign pointing towards the business center. I think these tables with outlets in the lobby are what’s considered the business center? Maybe there will be other equipment at some point.

In the morning, I worked at one of these tables. The WiFi worked well here, just as it did everywhere else I checked at the property.

There are also a couple of small ballrooms, plus an events patio.

Cancun Airport Shuttle

Since we were arriving from another resort in Playa Del Carmen, we used Welcome Pickups for a seamless transfer between the two hotels. This meant I was unable to test how well the Hyatt Place Cancun Airport shuttle works for airport pickups.

However, we did take the free hotel shuttle to the airport.

Currently, the shuttle only operates by reservation or on demand upon arrival at the airport. The hotel plans to eventually have the shuttle running every 15 minutes once it’s busier.

We made a reservation for 12:30pm the next day, but we actually ended up being ready around noon. The front desk staff arranged for our shuttle to pick us up earlier than the scheduled departure, and it arrived promptly.

Thanks to the close location, the shuttle ride barely takes any time at all, especially when departing the hotel.

Hyatt Place Cancun Airport Food & Drink Review

Breakfast Buffet

Each morning, there’s a free breakfast buffet at the Hyatt Place Cancun Airport. We were only there for one morning, of course, but we found it sufficient.

It includes standard items like cereals, oatmeal, toast, fresh fruit, juice, tea, and coffee.

hyatt place cancun airport breakfast fruit 700x525

There were also a few hot dishes, including real eggs, and not the typical Hyatt Place/House eggs (IYKYK).

One cool thing was that warm tortillas are available, so you can make breakfast tacos.

The Placery Bar & Restaurant

If you’re staying at the Hyatt Place in the evening, your food and drink options are either delivery or The Placery Bar & Restaurant. We decided to check out the hotel’s food on our one night stay.

hyatt place cancun airport review 700x525

Since there were only a few people staying in the entire hotel, the bar was quiet. It has a good amount of seating, so I imagine it could turn into a lively spot filled with people telling tales of their trips to Cancun.

We had a margarita pizza, which wasn’t amazing, but also wasn’t terrible, along with a Chicken Caesar Salad (a traditional Mexican dish – seriously!). The salad was dependably fine. I would order it again.

hyatt place cancun airport the placery restaurant 700x933

I’m not sure if this was because the hotel was new, but we weren’t able to charge our dinner and drinks to our room.  It wasn’t a big deal, just something to note.

The hotel’s website also mentions a 24/7 on-site market, but there was no sign of one yet. It’s possible something will be added later, since it would be helpful for people on odd travel schedules to be able to grab something at any time of day.

Review Summary

The new Hyatt Place Cancun Airport is an excellent airport hotel. It’s clean, safe, and quiet. The service is fantastic. While the rooms could use a bit more space and offer a few more features, such as a desk, it’s a great place for a short stay before or after your Cancun flight.

hyatt place cancun airport 700x525

Overall, I was impressed by how nice the hotel feels. Having just come from Hyatt’s spectacular Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen and Impression Moxché by Secrets resorts, we braced ourselves for having to return to the real world of “normal” hotels. But the hotel’s design is nice, and it really doesn’t feel like a low-end place. It’s a great new option as a Cancun airport hotel.
