Historic York, Pennsylvania, was once the capital of the United States (for just 8 months during the Continental Congress). The area is filled with historic sites.
Downtown York has a lot of historic buildings, including many that have been turned into bars and restaurants. I enjoyed a few great places for craft beer in York, including breweries and beer bars.
Note: York County is home to more breweries than the ones on my list, but I’m focusing on the ones in downtown York, which are all within walking distance of each other, so you can go on a nice brewery crawl.

Collusion Tap Works is located right in the middle of the Mural Park. They also have a taproom in Lititz, north of Lancaster.

Gift Horse Brewing Company
Gift Horse Brewing Company in downtown York has a taproom, but what’s most impressive is their beer garden.
It’s the biggest beer gathering space in town, with tons of space as well as live music on weekends.

There are 12 taps of beer, which are available in flights of six. Beers are also available in cans to go.
The brewery has a food menu that includes mac and cheese bowls, smashed potatoes, desserts, and other bar eats.

Gift Horse and Liquid Hero collaborated on a Centenary Amber Lager with The Yorktowne Hotel, located just a few blocks away, to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The historic York hotel is also home to two great cocktail bars.
The two York breweries enjoy a close working relationship, sharing a brewing facility just steps away from their two downtown taprooms.

Liquid Hero Brewery Pub
Liquid Hero Brewery Pub has a bright corner taproom located just across the street from WellSpan Park, home ballpark of the York Revolution. It’s the perfect place for a few beers before or after a game.

Joy, the friendly bartender, welcomed me immediately as I set out to decide which six of their 10 taps I wanted for my flight.
The beer selection includes core beers as well as newly developed batches. I especially enjoyed their lighter beers (though this was partly due to it being a hot, humid summer day). My favorite was the Well, Helles Yeah! Lager.

The brewery also offers beer to-go, cocktails, and a food menu.

Mudhook Brewing Company
York Central Market is an excellent local market filled with vendors selling a variety of food, drinks, local products, and more. It’s one of the highlights of York and a cool place to check out.

Mudhook Brewing Company is located at the corner of York Central Market. It was the first craft brewery in York.
The brewery offers 10 taps, as well as growlers and crowlers. They’ve even collaborated on a beer with Explore York. Mudhook offers cocktails and Pennsylvania spirits, along with a food menu that includes starters, sandwiches, salads, wraps, hot dogs, and cheesesteaks.

While there’s an indoor space at the corner of the building, there’s also a nice beer garden outside.

Holy Hound Taproom

The chalkboard menu (always a sign of a quality establishment) boasts that the beer bar has kicked over 14,000 kegs since 2012.

The bar has tons of tables along with a long, well-loved wooden bar. The food menu, which uses fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients, includes burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, and more.
Frequent events include trivia and jazz nights. Oh, and there’s also a painting of a Simpsons character, Disco Stu, on the wall (even though he doesn’t need to advertise).
