At the moment, Valladolid, Mexico, isn’t a city with much craft beer. Unlike Mérida, which has several great beer bars and breweries, there’s only one place of note for craft beer in Valladolid.
But when that one craft beer spot is a beautiful brewery and beer garden, do you really need that much more?
The Best Brewery in Valladolid, Mexico
Idilio Folklore Cervecero
Idilio Folklore Cervecero is located on Calzada De Los Frailes, a beautiful street that stretches from the center of Valladolid toward the historic Convento de San Bernardino de Siena.

The street is lined with great bars, restaurants, and shops, making it one of the highlights of Valladolid.
At first, it doesn’t seem like you’re entering a brewery. When you step inside from the street, the first few rooms are filled with museum displays.

This property was once the home of artist Ramón Mendoza Novelo. Today, the front rooms are dedicated to his life and work. It’s part of La Ruta de los Museos.
The art and history experience continues inside the taproom. There are display cases with old beer bottles and advertisements.

This taproom leads to the highlight of the property: a tranquil garden filled with plants and seating. It’s a lovely place for a drink.

The garden has a few cats wandering about. We even spotted a possum scampering atop one of the garden walls.

As you might expect, any outdoor space in the Yucatán will attract mosquitoes, especially areas with greenery and water features. Each table has a handy bottle of bug spray in case you’ve come unprepared.
When I visited, Idilio Folklore Cervecero was celebrating its 6th anniversary with a special tap list featuring beers from six other local Mexican breweries.

This was in addition to nine taps of their core beers and some bottles. There’s also a food menu featuring tacos, hamburgers, pasta, and starters. Drinks come with chips and salsa.

I opted for a flight of four, choosing pilsner, NEIPA, brown ale, and dry stout. I liked some more than others, but overall it was a nice experience. It’s the best place in Valladolid for beer, by far.

In addition to beer, the bar also has a cocktail list. My girlfriend enjoyed the Ronchata, a delicious boozy take on horchata.

In addition to Idilio Folklore Cervecero, some Valladolid restaurants and bars offer small craft beer selections, typically just a few bottles.
