Some craft beer cities have few breweries, but lots of beer bars, while other cities have the opposite. Quebec City, Canada, definitely falls into the latter category. The city is packed with microbreweries that have one or two taprooms and limited distribution beyond that. While some other bottle shops might sell their beer, you often have to visit the brewery to get their beer to go. Here are my favorite places for craft beer in Quebec City, including local breweries and taprooms, as well as a few beer bars.
One way to get a nice introduction to Quebec City is to take a tour. Check out these excellent tour options & book now!

Most Quebec City brewery taprooms also have full food menus. In some places, I’ve found that breweries that try to do both good beer and good food often fail at one or both, but that’s not the case in Quebec City. Every place I’ve visited does a solid job with beer and food.
Noctem Artisans Brasseurs
Noctem Artisans Brasseurs is one of my favorite Quebec City breweries. In addition to two brewpub locations, they can also be found at local events and in local shops selling craft beer.
Book your hotel in Quebec City now!Their cat-themed designs and beer names are cute. The patio of their St. Roch taproom is a great place to hang out on a sunny day. It’s also the home of the brewery.

My friends and I all shared three flights, which allowed us to try a good number of Noctem’s full range of beers, which total 18 frequently rotating taps. While they have plenty of IPAs, of course, they also have other interesting styles, including gose, brown ale, and more.

There is also a food menu. We weren’t hugely hungry, but we enjoyed a couple of snacks and some dessert.
Everyone we met who was affiliated with the brewery was also great, whether we were getting help from servers or talking with Jean-Michaël, one of the brewery owners, after running into him at an event.

La Barberie – Microbrasserie & Restaurant
La Barberie has great beer and great food, yet those aren’t even the biggest highlights of a visit.
The cooperative brewery, which has been open since 1997, has an amazing beer garden that’s filled with trees. It’s a fantastic place to hang out on a sunny day. It’s right near Gare du Palais, the main Quebec City train station.

Beer is brewed on-site, and cans are also available for takeout. I got (and enjoyed) the Leopard Cohen solely based on the name. The brewery also brews with local ingredients, such as strawberries from nearby Île d’Orléans.
The food is also excellent. The menu consists of sharing plates, and the more you order, the cheaper each one is.

We especially enjoyed the cod fritters and the small sausages in dough.

Nano Cinco – Brasserie Artisanale
The industrial area of Vieux-Limoilou is home to a couple of notable alcohol producers. Quebec City distillery Distillerie Stadaconé is right around the corner from Nano Cinco – Brasserie Artisanale.
Nano Cinco features a small upper-level taproom space with 14 taps, snacks, and board games that overlooks their brewing area. There’s also space to sit outside.

The brewery is particularly strong at making hazy IPAs, but they also brew sours, stouts, and more.

La Korrigane – Brasserie artisanale
La Korrigane is another craft brewery in St. Roch. They’ve been open for over 15 years.
All of the beer is brewed on site. The brewery makes special effort to work with and promote small local producers. They utilize unique and local ingredients in their beers. For example, I had the Melie, a pale ale brewed with local honey.
The bar also has a food menu. Their chimichurri poutine is a house specialty. It was a creative take on poutine, although I would have been happy with bit more chimichurri and a bit less gravy, but the bacon and cheese were great.

The local cheese and charcuterie board is also impressive.

In addition to approximately 10 beer taps, the brewery also offers cider and kombucha.
The brewpub hosts events such as trivia nights and also has board games available for play.

Emporium – Microbrasserie
At first, I considered skipping Emporium Microbrasserie. The brewery is located on the northern edge of Quebec City, making it a bit of a journey to get to from Old Quebec and St. Roch (although not too bad thanks to solid bus service). However, I’m glad I did, since they brew some of the best beer in Quebec City (and make some great pizza too!).
Thanks to being a bit outside of the city center where space is at a premium, the brewery has a large indoor space, plus a nice patio.
I visited on the perfect day. The brewery had just released a whopping nine new beers. Only four beers remained on tap from the day before. They had some interesting creations, including a fruit beer made with 100% Quebecois fruit.

Since there were so many new beers to try, I opted for a flight. I went for two double IPAs that were similarly named, though one was East Coast and one was West Coast.
I also got a Mexican lager. That’s not a style I would normally get on a flight, but it was called Chupacabra, which is also the name of my favorite Arizona beer bar in Mesa, so I had to get it.

The brick oven pizzas are thin crust with nice, creative options. I enjoyed The Fondante, which had lots of cheese plus pear, pecan, and maple syrup. The crust was also great.

La Souche – Microbrasserie
La Souche Brewery is another Quebec City brewery that specializes in working with local ingredients and producers.
The brewery, which opened in 2012, tests new recipes in its Limoilou brewpub before doing wider production. Ingredients include local herbs and spices. Another signature beer is a tiramisu nitro stout brewed with coffee from local journalist and food expert Allison Van Rassel’s coffee shop.

The brewpub also has a food menu, with their fried cheese curd balls and beer gravy poutine being two of the most popular items.
I tried a variety of their beers, including the aforementioned tiramisu stout, Trevise-En-Quebec, their signature Gros Pin Irish Red, St. Michel, a New England IPA that was made from 100% Quebec ingredients, including fir tree and myrique, and Mignardise 5, an apricot and vanilla dessert sour.
They also have a location north of Quebec City in Stoneham.

BSD – Brasseurs sur Demande
BSD (Brasseurs Sur Dumande) is another nanobrewery in Limoilou.
It’s down a bit of an alleyway, but there’s a signpost marking where to go.

Inside, you’ll find a small taproom with 12 taps, plus a fridge of cans to go, along with board games. I enjoyed a nitro schwarzbeer while listening to some pop punk on the brewery stereo.

Griendel – Brasserie Artisanale (quartier Montcalm)
When I first entered the Griendel taproom in Quartier Montcalm on a Saturday afternoon, I thought it was closed. Not a single seat was taken, and nobody was behind the bar.
But I quickly found out why nobody was inside. The brewpub has a beautiful back patio that offers a good mix of sun and shade, thanks to its trees and awnings.

I love the range of beer styles at Griendel. The brewery had 20 beers on tap, and only five of them were what I would consider to be the core IPA styles that fill the taps at many breweries. Otherwise, there was a good mix of everything from bohemian pilsners to foreign export stouts. The beers are produced in Saint-Jacques-de-Leeds, which is south of Quebec City.
I enjoyed a flight with a maple blonde, a rye IPA, a black IPA, and a mango and passion fruit sour. Rye and black IPAs are two of my favorite styles, and all of the beers were great.
The brewery also offers wine, cider, and cocktails, plus a food menu with a range of snacks, starters, and mains.

Siboire Saint-Vallier
Siboire is another brewery with multiple locations around Quebec. I visited their Montreal taproom. The brewery has a good range of beers, including low and no-alcohol options.
Their Saint-Vallier bar has 20 taps and is located in a building that was once home to the first liquor commission in Quebec.

Archibald Microbrasserie
Archibald Microbrasserie has a spectacular location in Old Quebec. The brewpub (which has a few locations in and around Quebec City) is located in the lower part of the Vieux Quebec.
It has fantastic views of the Funicular, the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and the waterfront.

The microbrewery has a strong food menu. They’re particularly known for their onion soup, as well as their fish and chips, which have an excellent crispy batter. I enjoyed them with a bock.
Thanks to its location in a major tourist area, prices are a bit higher than you’ll find at other Quebec City beer bars.

The Best Craft Beer Bars In Quebec City
Le Projet – Spécialité Microbrasseries
Le Projet is a nice beer bar in Saint-Jean-Baptiste that has a great selection of Quebec craft beer. Inside, there’s a clean, modern feel, but there’s also a small deck out front. On the day I visited, there was a music festival going on in the plaza in front of the church across the street.
The bar has chalkboard menus (always a good sign) with 22 taps. Seven were from Montreal brewery Boreale. The rest of the beers were from around Quebec, plus a couple of ciders and a seltzer.
It was a warm day, so I had a Quebecois lager from 4 Origines.

There’s also a food menu with poutine, some snacks, burgers, and fish and chips. The bar opened in 2013, but changed ownership in 2025.
