Milan. The epicenter of trendy Italian fashion and design. It’s not surprising that such an influential area for culture would also have a strong beer scene. Proximity to Alpine water also helps. While I’d had Italian craft beer before, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many great beer spots there are in Milan. Here are my favorite places for craft beer in Milan, including breweries, beer bars, tap rooms, and bottle shops.
Best Beer Bars in Milan
Lambiczoon
Sour beer lovers will especially love Lambiczoon. While I used to dislike these styles, I’ve grown to appreciate them in recent years, especially when done well. It’s hard not to enjoy a Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic Bio like the one I had at Lambiczoon.
Lambiczoon has a large selection of Belgian and Italian beers. They also offer more than sours if the name scares you away. The bar has 15 or so taps, plus fridges filled with everything from local beer to rarer Belgian bottles. There is also a whiskey selection, should you want something more potent.

I also enjoyed the XYAUYÙ 2018 Riserva Teo Musso, a barleywine from Baladin Indipendente Italian Farm Brewery, south of Turin.
There is a food menu, too, specializing in burgers.
Book your hotel in Milan now!I love a bar with a great beer selection, but more importantly, I love a bar where I instantly feel like a regular even when I’ve first arrived. The bar, which is covered in beer signs, was playing Italian pop music that everyone seemed to enjoy, singing and dancing along. The fact that there was a group celebrating a birthday helped with the fun atmosphere. The staff members were also welcoming, with the owner, Nino, giving me a glass of a lovely Italian grape ale to try out.
He has created a place that’s a true temple of beer and is easily one of the best beer bars in Milan.

Good Beer Drinking (Bere Bona Birra)
Good Beer Drinking (Bere Bona Birra) was another Milan craft beer bar where I instantly felt at home.
When I first visited, it was a quiet weekday afternoon, so the bartender had plenty of time to explain all the taps that were currently on (there are five taps and a cask). There’s also a huge selection of cans and bottles for drinking in and takeaway.

I’m always a fan of any opportunity to drink a beer with local seasonal flavors, so I especially enjoyed the smoked chestnut beer from PicoBrew.

The bartender also gave me a taste of Symphony From the Barrel #6, a special Italian imperial stout from Brasseria Della Fonte that he had opened but wasn’t available for sale. It was stunning.

Mercato Centrale Milano Birreria
Milano Centrale train station is more than just a transportation hub. Inside the building is a large food market with stalls offering everything from quick snacks to full restaurants. The whole setup reminds me of train stations in Japan.

Right near the market entrance is a stand selling craft beer. There are signs for “La Birreria.” It’s easy to spot once you notice the sticker-covered counter and columns. The bar has around 12 taps, plus some bottles and cans, a mixture of both local and imports.

Grab some food from one of the plentiful spots in the market, then get yourself a good beer to go with it.

Bierfabrik Milano
Bierfabrik Milano has a good selection of top breweries from around Europe (including Italian beers, of course).
At first, I was satisfied with the beers from the 15 or so taps, but later, I spotted the fridges full of beer in the back. About 100 other beers are on offer (also listed on Untappd to make browsing easier).
I enjoyed Where’s The Damn Flavor, a very good triple IPA collab from Sudden Death in Germany and Cloudwater in England.

The bar also serves spirits and small plates. You can sit on the front patio or in the inside space, which has a fun classic rock playlist featuring The Who, CCR, Led Zeppelin, and The Clash.

Citra Beerstrot Milano
Citra Beerstrot Milano is a small new beer bar that opened in Lambrate in 2023. The area is also the namesake of Milan’s oldest craft brewery, Birrificio Lambrate, which has two nearby locations.
The bright, magenta-highlighted bar with lively music has five taps plus a small fridge. It serves a mix of Italian and imported beer, natural wines, and kombucha.

The selection isn’t huge, but it’s interesting, and the handful of tables inside and out front are pleasant places to hang out and relax with a beer. Citra Beerstrot Milano is the sort of little beer bar every neighborhood should have.

Tap Milano
Tap Milano is a multilevel bar and patio with space for 24 taps, though when I visited only 12 or so were in use. There’s also a fridge with some additional beer, including gluten-free options. Spirits are also available.

The bar has a menu with burgers, sandwiches, and German food.

BeerShow
BeerShow, which opened in 2015, is a small beer bar in Isola with five taps and a few fridges scattered around the bar. It features over 100 beers from Italy and beyond.

There isn’t a ton of seating inside, so most people sit outside on the large patio, especially on a pleasant evening.

The Craft Philosophy
The Craft Philosophy is a friendly neighborhood beer bar in Milan’s Bullona district.
The beer selection consists of six taps and a couple of fridges. They offer four-beer tasting flights, which is nice for getting to try more beers. The Craft Philosophy also serves meat and cheese plates and focaccia.

The neighborhood has lots of dogs, making it an excellent place for dogspotting. Or, if dogs are somehow not your thing (what is wrong with you?), the bar also shows football matches and occasionally has live music.

Triple Milano
Triple Milano is just a couple of blocks away from The Craft Philosophy. It, too, is a nice neighborhood spot.
When I visited, the bar had nine beers on tap, five of which were from Brewberry, the Milan brewery that owns the bar. There were also a couple of fridges.

A large TV is great for showing sports, with basketball being of special interest. I watched a replay of a Phoenix Suns playoff game. Some friendly patrons had brought food and were sharing with others, so I had some salami. Like the neighborhood dogs, I like treats.

Navigli Craft Beer
Milan’s Navigli district is packed with great bars and restaurants, including some of the best cocktail bars in Milan. The neighborhood is named for the canals, known as navigli. Milan used to have more canals, but just a few remain today.
Navigli Craft Beer is located on one such canal. It’s a small spot with a handful of tables inside.

The bar offers around 15 taps plus five casks.

Yankee Milano
Looking for American or German beer? Head to Yankee Milano. The bar used to be a bit more of a trek from the city center, but thanks to the Metro extension, Bolivar station is a short walk away.
Yankee Milano has up to 24 taps of mostly American and German beer, but there are also some other breweries, including some Wicklow Wolf from Ireland.

The food menu is exactly what you’d expect from an American-themed bar: hot dogs, hamburgers, and nachos. A country music playlist and lots of American beer signs complete the picture.
The bar hosts an annual Oktoberfest celebration, with crowds packing the bar and the outside patio.

Best Craft Breweries in Milan
Birrificio Lambrate Golgi
Birrificio Lambrate is the original craft brewery in Milan, founded in 1996.
The brewery has two locations not far from each other in Lambrate, an area popular with local university students. The Golgi location is Birrificio Lambrate’s restaurant, with longer hours than the original brewpub.

Birrificio Lambrate is decorated with posters of their beers on the walls, plus a line of beer steins and bottles on the shelf above.
In addition to a selection of Lambrate beers, the restaurant offers a full food menu, including a dessert case and aged beef dinners.

Birrificio Milano
In a city known for its place in the design world, it’s unsurprising that one of its breweries would pay close attention to its design aesthetic while brewing great beer.

Birrificio Milano’s taproom is a clean, modern spot with a selection of the brewery’s beers. I enjoyed Otto Cubano, a fantastic scotch ale with great smoky, peaty flavor.
Address: Via Antonio Stoppani, 22, 20129 Milano MI, Italy (map)

Birrificio Italiano Milano
Birrificio Italiano Milano seems similarly named to the above Milan brewery but is not affiliated with it. In fact, Birrificio Italiano is one of the oldest craft breweries in Italy, having opened in Lombardy in 1996.
Their spacious Milan taproom near Milano Centrale has around 12 taps plus two casks, and its food menu includes small plates, focaccia, and burgers.

I especially enjoyed the cheese plate, which included outstanding local cheeses and a pear that had been candied in mustard, along with Sogno Lucido, a lovely double pils.

Birra di Quartiere
Beer and hot dogs are a match made in heaven. Throw in some pastries, too, and I’m sold.
Birra Di Quartiere has a couple of bars in Milan. The beer selection is mostly from Birrificio WAR, a brewery just outside Milan in Cassina De’ Pecchi, near Gorgonzola. The bar has 12 taps, plus a small fridge with some cans.

La Buttiga Beer Room
La Buttiga Beer Room Martesana is one of my favorite taprooms in Milan for a few reasons.
Sure, it’s a little bit further outside the city center than other Milan beer bars, north of Milano Centrale. But the journey is worth it.
First, the taproom has an excellent canalside location. There are plenty of patio tables in the sun or shade, depending on your mood, as well as seating inside.

The bar’s hours are also great. Most beer bars and breweries in Milan tend to open only after 5 or 6 p.m., but La Buttiga Beer Room Martesana is open all day.
The bar also has a great selection, with 12 taps and a fridge with bottles. While I was disappointed that the brewery’s famed truffle porter wasn’t available, I enjoyed the Rye 3 IPA. I love a good rye IPA.

The food menu includes burgers, hot dogs, and paninis.
La Buttiga Beer Room also has live music, but even when that’s not going on there’s still a good soundtrack. I enjoyed my beers while listening to Pearl Jam’s excellent live album, “Live On Two Legs.”
The brewery first started in Piacenza in 2011. They also have three other locations scattered around Milan.

PicoBrew Station
PicoBrew started by delivering beer in Milan by bicycle. Now, it has a pub with 12 taps and sells beer at other beer bars in the city.

PicoBrew doesn’t just brew beer. The brewer also makes cheese and salami with beer.

Best Bottle Shops in Milan
A Tutta Birra
In addition to the beer bars mentioned above that offer beer available for takeaway, A Tutta Birra is a bottle shop dedicated to craft beer.
The shop, which has been in operation since 1995 (and has a website that looks like it), offers over 500 different beers from all over the world.
Be sure to check their hours before heading there. Depending on the day of the week, they might only be open for a few hours earlier in the day and then a couple in the evening.

A few Milan craft beer bars and breweries are no longer in operation, including Darsena Craft Beer and Barley Park Craft Beers and Ales.
