Malta has a small, but growing craft beer scene. While much of the island nation’s beer drinking is centered on the local Cisk, newer breweries such as Lord Chambray & Huskie are rapidly showing that there’s much more to beer than lager. Here’s where to find the best craft beer in Malta, including breweries, beer bars, taprooms, and bottle shops.
The Best Breweries In Malta
Lord Chambray Brewery
Lord Chambray Brewery is the most popular craft brewery in Malta. They have been brewing since 2014. Their brewery & taproom is located on the island of Gozo, which is a short ferry ride away from the main island. However, their beer can also be found at most other top beer bars in Malta.
The Gozo taproom and brewery features 12 taps of Lord Chambray Beer. There’s a small inside space as well as a patio. They are located with other small food & drink-related businesses in the Gozitano Agricultural Village, including the excellent restaurant Vini e Capricci by Abraham’s.
The tap selection has something available in almost every style, though the beers generally lean more toward the lighter & refreshing, which makes sense for a hot Mediterranean island.
When I was in Gozo, I had the 4 glass tasting in order to be able to try a few beers. I also had more of their beers around Malta. The prices are especially great when buying at the brewery, which also has bottles to go.

The Brew Grill & Brewery
The Brew Grill & Brewery is a restaurant & brewpub on the Sliema waterfront. Outside, there’s a huge patio space with nice views, which most visitors gravitate towards.
However, the inside basement space where the brewery is tends to be much cooler & relaxed. The brewery makes around a dozen house beers, with something in most styles. I started off with a NEIPA before then later moving on to an imperial stout that I really wanted to try.
There is also a full cocktail menu, including happy hour specials & signature cocktails. While I stuck to beer, my friends enjoyed them.
The Brew Grill & Brewery also has a full meat-focused food menu that includes Unlimited Wing Thursdays and Rib Sundays, plus burgers, platters, and hot stone dishes.

Farson’s Brewery (Cisk) – The Brewhouse Malta
Pretty much every bar in Malta serves Cisk, the country’s national lager.
The Brewhouse Malta is home to Farson’s Brewery, the brewers of Cisk and other local beers since 1928. In addition to restaurants & bars, the huge building also hosts the Farson’s Brewery Experience. The Art Deco building first opened in 1950 but has recently gotten a beautiful modern update while still retaining its historic charm.
The Farson’s Brewery Experience is a self-paced tour that covers the full history of beer brewing in Malta, as well as the history of the country as a whole.
In addition to the tour, which includes the spacious room featuring the old copper kettles, there is also a brand shop.

The Best Craft Beer Bars In Malta
Wild Honey Beer House & Bistro
Wild Honey is a beer bar in Valletta that has a large craft beer selection & a cozy atmosphere.
The bar has around 120 bottles & cans, plus a handful of taps. There are lots of Belgian beers, as well as a good amount of Scandinavian beers. They also serve pizza & platters.
Inside, it’s a colorful space that feels like a homey pub, with a corner stage for live music as well as a larger upstairs area. There are also a few outside tables.
Music-wise, the selection was right up my alley, featuring indie and alternative rock like Franz Ferdinand, Pearl Jam, and The Killers. It’s also on the growing list of bars that have played Pulp’s “Common People” while I have been there, I can only assume in my honor.

67 Kapitali
67 Kapitali is a lively craft beer bar in Valletta that has a good beer selection as well as one of my favorite things about Malta: platters.
Their create-your-own platters offer a ridiculous amount of delicious food, more than enough for sharing.
In addition to 11 beer taps and a few dozen cans and bottles (including Lord Chambray and Huskie, a local brewery that doesn’t have a public taproom), 67 Kapitali has a Spritz menu, plus a full cocktail bar.
It’s a popular bar for conversation with friends thanks to the great drink list & shareable food, but there’s also a TV showing football in the corner, so I was unexpectedly able to watch an Arsenal match.

The Crafty Cat Pub – The Hoppy Hare Pub – The Hatter Irish Pub – Down The Rabbit Hole
The Crafty Cat Pub is part of a small local network of bars with similar, but slightly different themes, generally combining some elements of Alice-in-Wonderland with an Irish pub. Other bars that are part of the group of Wonderland Bars include The Hoppy Hare Pub, The Hatter Irish Pub, & Down The Rabbit Hole.
Polish brewery AleBroWar can be found across many of the 10 rotating taps at the Crafty Cat Pub, including Mela Mela, which is brewed specifically for the beer bars in Malta. There are also around 40 bottles & cans available.
There is a food menu with typical bar food such as wings, burgers, chicken strips, and more, all homemade.

Hole in the Wall
Hole in the Wall is an appropriately named bar located in Sliema’s winding streets. Housed in former stables, it’s the oldest bar in Sliema.
Pass through the old wooden doors and you’ll find a friendly drinking establishment with a small but quality craft beer selection, plus cocktails, coffee, toasties, and hot dogs.
The eclectic bar has walls covered in printed posters, space for live music & other arts events above the WC, a shelf with board games and books, and a Donkey Kong arcade machine.

The Black Sheep Drink & Dine
The Black Sheep Drink & Dine is located right next to The Brew Grill & Brewery in Sliema. It similarly has a semi-basement space as well as a patio. It has a bit more of an upscale vibe than its neighbor.
The space has green loveseat seating & brick walls, with more of a feel of a cocktail bar than a craft beer bar, though they still have a selection of a dozen or so craft beer cans and bottles, including Lord Chambray. They also have a food menu that changes from time to time. The service is great, & it’s a fun place for drinks if you’re with a group of people who have varied drinking preferences.

Balluta Bar is a small, no-frills bar in St. Julians. It’s one of the best places in Malta to watch live sports, including English Premier League matches, NFL games, and more.
The bar has a couple of fridges filled with a few dozen craft beers, plus some other European beers. Bar snacks are served.

The Best Craft Beer Bottle Shops In Malta
Beer Head
Beer Head is Malta’s first specialty craft beer bottle shop and tasting room. They offer hundreds of craft beers, plus seltzers, ciders, and snacks. Beer Head is located in Naxxar, which is a bit out of the way if you are visiting & staying in the tourist areas such as Valletta, Sliema, or St. Julian’s. However, they also offer online ordering & delivery. The shop also has a mobile beer tent that can be rented for special events.
