I stayed in Queenstown, New Zealand for four nights, and I knew as soon as I landed at the airport that it would not be nearly enough. It’s a gorgeous area, and a perfect place for a vacation, no matter the season.

I booked a room in the Queenstown Motel Apartments for my entire stay via Agoda.com. Aside from a little bit of road noise on a rainy night, it was quiet. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre of Queenstown, but the walk is nice, and the motel’s location is a 2-minute walk away from Lake Wakatipu. This is the view from across the road from the motel.

Getting to the hotel from the airport was easy. There was an airport bus that runs often to the city center, and there was a stop just across the street. If you’re driving around New Zealand, there is parking available on-site.

Dianne, the owner, checked me in and gave me lots of information about the area. She asked if I wanted any milk for tea or coffee in my room, or if there was anything else she could help with. The Queenstown Motel Apartments are family-run, and it shows with their excellent customer service. I felt like I was at home. Even though I didn’t need much else during my stay, and I left on Christmas Day, so I didn’t see anyone when I left, I know that I would have been taken care of had I needed anything. My room was in a separate, single-floor building toward the front of the property.

As for the room, it was spacious and had everything I needed. Since I was working remotely, it was great that there was a desk area, plus another table I could work at.

If you want to save money in Queenstown by making some of your own food, there are mini-fridges and microwaves in the small kitchens.

There was even a small shared patio out back.

One of the highlights was the amazing shower. It wasn’t a massaging head or anything like that, but the water pressure & temperature were great. After all of the traveling I had been doing to get to New Zealand, plus all the hiking I would do while in the Queenstown area, it was much needed.

I had booked my stay at the Queenstown Motel Apartments early since I knew it was peak season. By doing so, Dianne said I had gotten a pretty good deal. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Queenstown during the holidays or any other busy tourist season, I recommend booking early as well. There are other hotels that are closer to the city center, but they are either much more expensive and/or they aren’t as nice and quiet.

I enjoyed my stay at the Queenstown Motel Apartments, and I would gladly stay there again someday when I return to Queenstown.
