The Czech Republic is famous for its beer. Head to any bar or restaurant, and the beer is cheaper than water. Brno in South Moravia is no different. Everywhere you look, there are plenty of beer options, ranging from traditional Czech breweries to new breweries following the latest craft trends. Here is where to find the best craft beer in Brno, including breweries, beer bars, bottle shops, and taprooms.

The Best Craft Beer Bars in Brno

Malt Worm

Malt Worm is one of the most popular places for craft beer in Brno. It’s a busy spot on any night of the week and with good reason. The bar has up to 17 taps, plus some fridges with cans and bottles.

It may initially seem like a small bar but head backward & there’s more space, plus the fun spills out onto the patio.

Address: Starobrněnská 339/12, 602 00 Brno-střed, Czechia (map)

Craft Beer Bottleshop & Bar

Although there are signs for it, it’s easy to miss Brno’s Craft Beer Bottleshop & Bar. Just off of the square that’s home to the Cabbage Market, there’s a non-functioning escalator. Head up & you’ll find a floor with small stalls called Brno Market. One corner of the market is set up with the best craft beer selection in the city. The whole space has a very d-i-y feel to it, with artists painting & rock music playing.

The bar, which is run by Craft Beer Import, has 6 taps as well as fridges with a couple of hundred or so cans and bottles. Their selection is extensive, including foreign imports as well as the best craft beer from around the Czech Republic.

When the weather is good, they also operate a kiosk out on the square.

Pivní burza Veveří & Beer Exchange 2.0 Pivní burza Jánská

There are two Brno craft beer bars that have a unique concept: Pivní burza Veveří & Beer Exchange 2.0 Pivní burza Jánská. Their gimmick? The beer prices operate as a stock exchange, rising and falling based on demand. If you’re down to go with something that’s less popular at the moment, you can save a bit of money. Of course, Czech beer is all so cheap anyway, but it’s still fun.

The bars have around 8 taps of local beers, including Lucky Bastard. There is also a full food menu. One note, nearly all of the tables are huge.

Ochutnávková Pivnice

Before opening Malt Worm, the people behind it cut their teeth with Ochutnávková Pivnice, an unassuming pub with a fantastic beer selection.

Walk into the cash-only Ochutnávková Pivnice & it feels like a random Czech bar, with a retro vibe that makes it feel like it hasn’t been updated since the 60s or 70s.

In addition to their 8 taps, they offer several nice fridges of beer that also include a lot of Belgian selections (particularly Lambics), plus some other drinks such as Czech cider.

Zastávka Pub – pivnice malých pivovarů

Zastávka Pub is a small corner neighborhood bar located northwest of the Brno city center. The area also has several other good bars nearby.

In addition to 10 craft beer taps, the pub has a public transportation theme, with walls covered in photos, schedules, signs, and posters. If you’re in that crossover demographic of beer & transportation nerds *raises hand*, Zastávka is a great little bar (cash only).

Pivnice U Tekutého Chleba

Another straightforward beer bar is Pivnice U Tekutého Chleba. The decor is simple, but it’s a bustling spot, particularly amongst the outside tables looking out towards the park across the street. The cash-only bar has 7 taps, plus some bottles.

Pub U Dvou přátel

The tiny Pub U Dvou Přátel is a combination beer bar and burger restaurant (AKA Burger Inn). There’s a nice selection of beer amongst their 7 taps and a couple of fridges.

The Best Breweries in Brno

Axiom Pub

Axiom Brewery’s Axiom Pub has the largest tap selection in Brno (22 taps).

Not only is it the biggest selection in town, but the taproom’s beers cover the broadest range of modern styles, including lots of IPA varieties & imperial stouts. It’s a cool spot, with British indie music playing on the stereo. The brewery itself is based in Prostějov.

JBM Draft House

JBM Draft House is the taproom of JBM Brew Lab. The brewery specializes in fruit sours.

In addition to their own tangy beers, the taproom’s 10 taps include guests as well as some cans and bottles. With chill indie folk music, it’s a relaxing place to enjoy beers that depart from traditional Czech styles.

EFI Pivovar & Hostinec

EFI Pivovar & Hostinec is an excellent brewpub/hotel/wellness center that’s connecting traditional Czech beer with newer craft beer styles. In addition to the traditional styles, EFI also brews American IPA, Cascadian Dark Ale, and NZ Pale Ale, to name a few, as well as cider.

All of their beer is brewed on-site, with a few taps as well as plastic bottles available to go.

EFI also has fantastic traditional Czech food. Their cheese spread with garlic bread is great, as is the deer goulash.

The brewery also has a second location near the Cabbage Market.

Lucky Bastard Brewhouse

Lucky Bastard beers can be found around Brno, but they also operate the Lucky Bastard Brewhouse a bit outside the city center.

Inside, the main bar is in a basement, with bricks & wood everywhere. Out front, there’s a nice little patio.

The beer bar has 6 taps, with some of their own as well as some guests, along with a couple of dozen bottles and cans. There is also a full food menu that incorporates Balkan flavors.

Pivovar HARRY

Pivovar HARRY is supposedly the largest bar in the Czech Republic. That wouldn’t be surprising, as it is indeed a massive space. Located in a former post office, Pivovar HARRY has a spacious multi-level main room, as well as side rooms, plus patios.

There is of course a brewery on site, brewing a bunch of different styles, both Czech and modern craft. The selection rotates across 6 taps, including one guest.

Lokál U Caipla

The spacious Lokál U Caipla is part of a small chain of taprooms & restaurants scattered around the Czech Republic. At each, you’ll find tanks of their own beer (including the excellent Kozel Black Unfiltered), along with a full menu of traditional Czech food.

The food menu includes specials that come with soup, such as their baked chicken leg stuffed with bacon served with rice, which I had with chicken noodle soup.

Address: Kozí 115/3, 602 00 Brno-střed, Czechia (map)

Pivovarský dům Poupě

Pivovarský dům Poupě is another large Brno brewpub with its own brewery & tanks full of beer (both traditional Czech & newer craft). It also has a hearty food menu, including lunch specials & plenty of grilled meat.

Address: Dominikánská 342, 602 00 Brno-střed, Czechia (map)

U Tomana

Right on Brno’s Freedom Square, U Tomana has a brewery on-site, as well as a full food menu. They also rent boutique hotel rooms.
