Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, is famous for its sherry. While sherry can be used as a cocktail ingredient, there are surprisingly few good cocktail bars in Jerez. This is especially the case now that the beloved Cubaname has closed. Here are my favorite spots for cocktails in Jerez.

One way to get a nice introduction to Jerez is to take a tour. Check out these excellent tour options & book now!

The Best Cocktail Bars In Jerez

Cubaname – Museo del Ron

First things first, Cubaname – Museo Del Ron no longer exists. A few months after I visited, the proprietor, Eloy Garcia Vergara, retired and closed the business, which had been open since the year 2000. But I loved the bar so much that I want to leave my review here in tribute to the best cocktail bar in Jerez.

Cubaname was a tropical island hideaway from Cuba located on the ground floor of a suburban apartment block. It was one of the best tiki bars in Spain, in a place you’d never expect.

As soon as I stepped inside, I was transported to the Caribbean, with wicker furniture and rum bottles lining the walls.

I perused the menu for a while, but Eloy was more than happy to give me suggestions. The menu includes rum cocktails and sherry cocktails. Many were Cuban cocktails that reminded me of my visit to Havana. There were also zero-alcohol cocktails available.

Since I was in Jerez and had been sherry tasting, I knew my first cocktail had to include it. After chatting with Eloy, he made me a drink using sherry, Cardenal Mendoza brandy, mango, spice, and lime.

It was outstanding and exactly what I’d hoped for when I asked for something that was tropical but also included sherry.

The drinks were served with peanuts and gumdrops.

Next, I enjoyed the Kanaloa No. 2, Eloy’s award-winning cocktail creation. It included two types of rum, various citrus, and passion fruit. It came out on fire, but cinnamon then made the flame bigger.

I sipped my drink, taking in the room around me, not knowing that this would be the only time I would get to visit this amazing tiki bar.

As I was paying, Eloy gave me a sample of the Cardenal Mendoza brandy, which is produced locally in Jerez and aged in sherry casks. It’s a beautiful drink, with notes of cherry and orange.

Cubaname – Museo Del Ron may no longer exist, but its memories live on with the decades of patrons who enjoyed Eloy’s labor of love in an unexpected place.

Coctelería The Bliss

Coctelería The Bliss is a lively glass-walled space located on the outskirts of Jerez. Despite not being centrally located, it’s a busy, fun bar.

All of the glass makes it a bit of a greenhouse, which is fine on a colder day. The sunlight and warmth lend a more tropical feel, which fits many of the drinks.

There’s also plenty of patio space for when the weather is hot. Other back alcoves are great for groups.

Service call buttons on tables make it easier to flag down a server when you’re ready for another round.

The Bliss has a large menu of creative cocktails, including alcohol-free versions.

I started with El Nido, which was served in a birdcage.

It even had audible bird noises! I couldn’t figure out how to turn it off at first, but thankfully, the conversation and music in the bar were loud enough not to attract attention. Coincidentally, Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” played on the sound system.

The drink was intense and fruity; a good boozy first cocktail.

Then I had the San Francisco. If you have a drink on your menu that’s named after my hometown, I kind of have to get it, right?

The drinks at The Bliss are solid, and it’s a fun place to hang out that’s both stylish and relaxed.

If you want something other than Spanish food when you’re in Jerez, Warique Peruano is an excellent Peruvian restaurant on Plaza Del Banco.

In addition to a menu of tasty Peruvian dishes, such as ceviche and lomo saltado, the restaurant also serves classic Peruvian cocktails, like pisco sours & chilcanos.

As you can see, Jerez doesn’t have much of a cocktail scene. If you’re a drinks enthusiast, you’ll have plenty of time to devote to sherry tasting in Jerez.
