Los Cabos International Airport serves the Baja California Sur cities of San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The airport has two terminals. Terminal 1 serves domestic destinations in Mexico, while Terminal 2 has international flights.

There is one lounge in the domestic Terminal 1 of SJD, the VIP Lounge Los Cabos. While the lounge isn’t fancy, I found it to be an adequately comfortable place to spend time before a flight.

VIP Lounge Access & Location

Terminal 1 at Los Cabos International Airport is a small terminal that’s easy to navigate.

After you pass through security, enter the main departure hall, and follow the signs. Head up the escalator.

The lounge is right at the top.

Access is available to Priority Pass and Lounge Key members. You can also purchase a day pass through Lounge Pass.

VIP Lounge Amenities

Seating and Layout

When I arrived at 8:45 am, there were only 3 or 4 other people in the VIP Lounge. Over the course of the hour or so that I spent in the lounge, it got a bit busier, but not that much.

Given that SJD Terminal 1 has only 8 gates, the lounge’s size seems sufficient.

The seating includes leather couches, chairs, and restaurant-style tables and chairs.

I decided to sit in a chair in the corner that had a power outlet right next to it. The lounge seemed to have a decent amount of places for charging electronic devices.

The back corner of the lounge is reserved as a “VIP” area. VIPs of the VIP Lounge.

Just as I was wondering who might be important enough to have this access, a couple of younger guys made a VIP entrance into the VIP Lounge.

A staff member escorted them to the VIP section, but they opted to sit in another part of the lounge. I don’t blame them. The VIP area offers privacy, but not only is it dank; the seating is better elsewhere.

Food and Drinks

I arrived during breakfast. The hot food bar included scrambled eggs with ham and salsas, which could then be combined with tortilla chips, cheese, and sour cream to make chilaquiles or nachos if you desire.

Soup was also available.

There was also a fresh fruit bar, plastic-wrapped fruit, pastries, and some mini cookies.

Alcoholic drink options include spirits, wine, and beer. I honestly couldn’t tell if they were self-serve or not. The positioning of the bottles and the cooler behind the food area made it look like it could be either way. I didn’t test it out since it was early in the day, nor did I see anyone else serve themselves or order a drink.

That said, the sodas and coffee definitely weren’t self-serve. The person stationed there was friendly though, unlike in some lounges where the staff members act like you’re a huge inconvenience for requesting something. She even came around asking if I wanted a refill.

Other Amenities

A prominent departure screen makes it easy to see the status of your flight. The gates are only steps away, so there’s no real need to budget time for a long walk.

Several televisions in the lounge were all showing La Liga football from Spain.

The restrooms were clean, though I visited early in the day. No showers are available, which is unsurprising for a small lounge in a domestic terminal.

Overall, the VIP Lounge in Terminal 1 at Los Cabos SJD is a pleasant enough airport lounge. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s clean, quiet, and comfortable. While it’s certainly not something I’d arrive early for, I didn’t mind spending an hour there before my flight to Mexico City.
