It&#8217;s right near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/copenhagen-l12\/copenhagen-city-card-pass-to-80-attractions-with-metro-pass-t66660\/?partner_id=4XRK3HJ&amp;utm_medium=travel_agent&amp;placement=content-top&amp;cmp=thorvaldsens-bus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">hop-on, hop-off bus routes<\/a> as well as other public transportation lines. There is an admission fee, except on Wednesdays. Children can always visit for free. It opened in 1848, but plans had started in the prior decade. Bertel Thorvaldsen moved back to <a href=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/travel-guides\/europe\/denmark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Denmark<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/travel-guides\/europe\/italy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Italy<\/a> with a hero&#8217;s welcome in 1838. Thorvaldsen bequeathed much of his fortune &amp; works to a public museum to be constructed on Slotsholmen Island near Christiansborg Palace. Thorvaldsens Museum is absolutely packed with Neoclassical sculptures, which take up the main floor &amp; the floors above. In the recent exhibit &#8220;Sean Scully: Material World,&#8221; Irish artist Sean Scully created works specifically for Thorvaldsen&#8217;s Museum.
