The Dover Museum &amp; Bronze Age Boat Gallery provides an excellent overview of the history of Dover from the earliest peoples to the modern era, with exhibits about important groups &amp; events such as the Romans &amp; the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk. If you&#8217;re visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/dover-day-trip-from-london-england-things-to-do-how-to-get-there-tours-activities-more-dover-travel-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dover on a day trip<\/a> or have some time while visiting there on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/dover-l34741\/?partner_id=4XRK3HJ&amp;utm_medium=travel_agent&amp;placement=content-top&amp;cmp=dover-museum-top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">group tour<\/a>, it&#8217;s worth a stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dover Museum &amp; Bronze Age Boat Gallery is free to visit, so even if you don&#8217;t have a ton of time, you can still pop in for a few minutes. This Dover Archaeology Gallery has items from the Stone Age &amp; Bronze Age, as well as the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, and Normans. This area of England has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years, so plenty of artifacts have been found. In fact, even nowadays, there&#8217;s more archaeological work being undertaken in the Market Square outside the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-artifacts-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-artifacts-700x933.jpg 700w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-artifacts-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-artifacts.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the middle floor of the Dover Museum, there is a space devoted to special exhibitions. When I visited, the space had a gallery about the Dunkirk evacuation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" src=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-dunkirk-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208771\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-dunkirk-700x525.jpg 700w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-dunkirk-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dover-museum-dunkirk.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the top floor covers Dover&#8217;s history since the Middle Ages. Here there are exhibits about important historical periods through the 20th century. And beware of the polar bear!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bronze_Age_Boat_Gallery\"><\/span>Bronze Age Boat Gallery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The highlight of the Dover Museum is the Bronze Age Boat Gallery.  The Bronze Age Boat of Dover is the world&#8217;s oldest surviving seagoing vessel. It was built around 1575\u20131520 BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-gallery-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-gallery-700x933.jpg 700w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-gallery-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-gallery.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1992, construction workers building the A20 road made a remarkable discovery. Not far from where the Dover Museum sits today, they found the wooden remnants of a boat. Construction was temporarily halted in order to record &amp; recover the remarkably preserved boat. Given the delicate condition of the Bronze Age boat, it was removed in pieces. You can read about the full details of the archaeological dig <a href=\"https:\/\/archaeology.co.uk\/articles\/specials\/timeline\/the-dover-bronze-age-boat.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What remains today has been reassembled at the Dover Museum. It&#8217;s incredible to consider that this boat traversed the English Channel over 3,500 years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" src=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-dover-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-208766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-dover-700x933.jpg 700w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-dover-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/bronze-age-boat-dover.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not known how much of the full boat this 9.5-meter remnant encompasses. Historians can only guess what the full vessel may have looked like.
