But beyond the airport, what is there to see and do? Thanks to excellent public transportation to and from central Frankfurt, you can decide based on your flight departure time &amp; where you want to be. The first four are actually attached to the airport &amp; the airport train station, but other nearby hotels have shuttles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, you can stay in central Frankfurt. Trains between there and the airport are quick and frequent. When I visited, tickets cost&nbsp;\u20ac4.80 each way. You&#8217;ll likely want to go into the Frankfurt city center during your layover anyway, so these hotels are attractive options to save some money. I found cheaper hotel deals in the city center when I had my layover. I actually stayed in two different hotels, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Hotel_Review-g187337-d253176-Reviews-Comfort_Hotel_Frankfurt_Central_Station-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Comfort Hotel Frankfurt Central Station<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Hotel_Review-g187337-d617952-Reviews-Clarion_Collection_Frankfurt_Central_Station-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Clarion Collection Frankfurt Central Station<\/a>, since Choice Hotels was running a promotion that rewarded per stay. Both were similarly priced, though I found the Clarion Collection hotel to be much nicer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_do_on_a_layover_in_Frankfurt\"><\/span>What to do on a layover in Frankfurt<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing to note is that the area of the Frankfurt city center near the train station is seedy as hell. It&#8217;s one of the largest red-light districts in the world. While the area is undergoing some change for the better, keep this in mind. For some, this could be a positive. For most others, it could be a big turn-off. I spent as little time as possible around my hotel because the area was just sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-red-light-district-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14100\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On my first afternoon &amp; evening in Frankfurt, I explored the city&#8217;s small craft beer scene, which is scattered throughout. Frankfurt has more skyscrapers than most other cities in Europe, so it felt more like an American city in some places. The area around the opera house was the prettiest I found in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-opera-house-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14101\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The next morning, I woke up early since I had a few more areas of Frankfurt to visit on my layover before I had to return to the airport early the following morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My morning started by heading across the Main River. A couple of pedestrian bridges lead to the south bank, which is known as the Museum Embankment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-main-river-bridges-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14102\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Museums\"><\/span>Museums<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several interesting museums on the south side of the Main in Frankfurt, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d190231-Reviews-Staedel_Museum-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">St\u00e4del Museum<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d243326-Reviews-Museum_Giersch-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Museum Giersch<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d190232-Reviews-Liebieghaus-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Liebieghaus sculpture museum<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d243321-Reviews-Museum_fur_Post_und_Kommunikation-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Museum for Communication<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d242534-Reviews-German_Film_Museum_Deutsches_Filmmuseum-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Deutsches Filmmuseum<\/a>, the Museum of Applied Art, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d243311-Reviews-Museum_of_World_Cultures-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Museum of World Cultures<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d243319-Reviews-German_Architecture_Museum-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Deutsches Architekturmuseum<\/a>. It&#8217;s one of the most impressive concentrations of museums that you&#8217;ll find anywhere in the world. The museums aren&#8217;t necessarily huge, but there&#8217;s a good variety to suit any visitor on a layover. This was my favorite area of the city for getting an experience that was uniquely Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a gorgeous day, and I didn&#8217;t want to spend all of it indoors, so I chose to only visit the St\u00e4del Museum. The St\u00e4del Museum features European art ranging from the Middle Ages all the way to the modern day. The collection predominantly had Flemish &amp; German works. Entry is a bit steep at&nbsp;\u20ac14, but it&#8217;s a huge place. Given the breadth of the collections, you can choose to view it as 3 museums in one, if that makes it easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-stadel-museum-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14103\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t spend much time looking at the older works, since that period doesn&#8217;t do much for me. However, there was one particularly interesting room in this gallery that showed the backs of paintings. It&#8217;s not something you normally get to see in a museum, so that was cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-stadel-museum-backs-of-paintings-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14104\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The contemporary portion of the St\u00e4del Museum consisted of a couple of massive rooms, one of which had a mirror wall. This reflected the colorful other pieces, tying everything together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-stadel-museum-contemporary-art-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14105\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Parks_Romerberg_food\"><\/span>Parks, R\u00f6merberg, &amp; food<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After visiting the&nbsp;St\u00e4del Museum, I walked along the Main River for a while. Along with the museums, it&#8217;s the loveliest part of Frankfurt. Once you&#8217;re away from the red light district, there are some nice parts of Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-main-river-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14106\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lots of people were out enjoying the sunshine since it was a warm Saturday. There are plenty of grassy areas along the water, plus a few beer gardens. Of course there are, it&#8217;s <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Germany\" href=\"https:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/travel-guides\/europe\/germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Germany<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-beer-garden-main-river-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14107\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/24-hour-layover-in-frankfurt-main-river-skyline-and-beer-garden-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14108\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I then crossed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d3470088-Reviews-Eiserner_Steg-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Iron Bridge (Eiserner Steg)<\/a> and headed for another popular area of Frankfurt, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/5616389\/type\/dlg\/https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Attraction_Review-g187337-d12829280-Reviews-Roemerberg-Frankfurt_Hesse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">R\u00f6merberg<\/a>. In this historic square, you&#8217;ll find reconstructed buildings, as well as the Frankfurt Town Hall. I also had a great burger at na\u00efv, a beer spot with a nice outdoor patio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/everybodyhatesatourist.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/naiv-craft-beer-and-burgers-frankfurt-700x933.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14112\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Central Frankfurt might not immediately seem like the most exciting place for a layover, but there are enough things to do that it&#8217;s a pleasant enough place to spend a day or two, especially if the weather is nice. If the weather isn&#8217;t good, then you can just spend more time in all of the museums.
