Look, I get it. It sucks that not all airplane seats have electrical outlets, and the ones that do typically require plug adapters. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea to leave your phone in the lavatory to charge instead.
That’s what one passenger did on a Delta flight from Istanbul to New York (JFK) today. The flight crew became concerned about the “suspicious device” that had been plugged into the shaver outlet and the plane was sent to Dublin, Ireland instead.
According to the Irish Times, “The aircraft was parked in an isolated area and gardaí boarded it and spoke to the pilot. They also spoke to a passenger who came forward after an announcement was made about the reason for their presence on board.”
It seems to me like it would have been a good idea to ask around about the object rather than just diverting the plane immediately and then asking. If the object was indeed a threat, and they didn’t want to tip the perpetrator off, surely a quick descent into Dublin would be a pretty big tip off as well, no?
