Cedar City, Utah is one of the best kept secrets for outdoor adventures in the United States. The region has a variety of outdoor & indoor activities for every season, age, and level of activity.

When you think of Southern Utah, gorgeous scenery such as nearby Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks and Cedar Breaks National Monument come to mind. Cedar City is in the heart of this beautiful region, and there’s even more to see & do beyond these parks.

During the winter, ski & snowboarding enthusiasts will love Brian Head Ski Resort‘s affordable prices and average annual snowfall of 360 inches. At 9,600 ft., Brian Head has the highest base elevation in Utah. Cedar Breaks National Monument features breathtaking snowy vistas, as well as snowshoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. The region’s parks are a great place to connect with nature any time of year, but they become especially peaceful in the quiet of winter.

For those who are looking for a winter adventure that doesn’t involve flying down a mountain at Brian Head, The Glacier, Cedar City’s community ice skating rink, is a non-profit organization that features ice skating, figure skating, and more.

Stargazers will love Cedar City no matter the season. Cedar Breaks National Monument was named as one of USA Today’s Ten Great Places to Stargaze, and it’s easy to see why. Thanks to its high elevation, location, and program to minimize light pollution, Cedar Breaks has one of the darkest night skies in the United States. The Southern Utah Space Foundation hosts events year-round at various stargazing locations near Cedar City.

If you’re looking for something a bit more relaxing, take advantage of Cedar City’s nice weather to visit local festivals, art galleries, museums, restaurants, and wineries.

  1. Cedar City, Utah is absolutely awesome! I have lived here since 2014 and have loved it here. In 2017 I started a YouTube Channel under my name at http://www.youtube.com/carlmazur and I have over 39,000 subscribers and that beat the number of people that live in Cedar City! The people here are just amazing.

I am very blessed to be able to venture outdoors and do photography, cinematography, design and concepts for various companies, TV commercials and social media advertising, website design, Google expert as a Google Guide Level 8 with over 17.5 million photo views and I just started a new YouTube channel to help others develop their cinematic skills in shooting with drones, cameras in high resolutions like 4K and even 8K.

One of my favorite artists here in Cedar City is Mary Jabens. She is fantastic! You can find her on Facebook.

Cedar City has lots of really cool and fun hikes that aren’t as well known. Like the hike up red hills canyon just above the Canyon View Park. Right before Rusty’s Steakhouse. There’s a nice hike up the canyon there and the rocks are almost pink colored.

Crystal Springs is a beautiful hike and it’s up Cedar Canyon off Hwy 14.

A real hidden gem is the Twisted Forest up by Brian Head. Many do not know of it, even some who have lived in CC awhile. It’s on the north side of Cedar Breaks National Park and the road starts over in Brian Head and it goes for about 5 miles until Twisted Forest. It’s an amazing sight to behold with trees that are up to 5,000 years old. Plus, head up the mountain a bit farther to overlook the entire Cedar Breaks National Park from a perspective many don’t see!
