Cancun International Airport has two main terminals, each of which has a VIP business lounge. The Mera Business Lounge Terminal 2 handles both international and domestic flights. Neither lounge has ties to a particular airline. Instead, you can either pay around $30 USD to visit (the price varies somewhat based on if you pay with USD or Mexican pesos), or you can use a Lounge Club or Priority Pass membership. On this occasion, I used one of my two free Lounge Club passes.

The food selection seemed lackluster at first, as there was only a bowl of mints and some cookies sitting out next to a rather optimistic tip jar.

Plus some other snacks in plastic cups.

I realized that there was more food around the corner. The food included small sandwiches, salads and fruit.

The lounge also had a selection of cold drinks including sodas and beer. There was a sign saying that the bottled drinks were only for being consumed in the lounge, but it wouldn’t be difficult to slip one into your bag for your flight (not that I am advocating that!).

There was also a bar that served wine and liquor.

I grabbed a few mini sandwiches, some cookies, and a beer, and went to relax for a while before my flight.

When I visited the lounge, it was perhaps halfway full, so I did not have any trouble finding a place to sit. The individual seats also had movable tables, which made it convenient for working or eating.

There were screens for checking on departures, as well as televisions for watching soccer.

Is the Mera Business Lounge particularly fancy? Nope. It’s not bad though, as there’s a good amount of space, some TVs, some snacks, and an open bar. Given the alternatives in Terminal 2, which looks like a mall food court, the lounge is nicer. While I don’t know if I’d spend the money for it, I suppose it could be worth it for the drinks if you have a lot of time to kill in the airport before you depart Cancun.

In summary, the Mera Business Lounge in Cancun’s Terminal 2 is not amazing, but it’s better than this:
