I recently signed up for the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Card. If you have miles in your United frequent flier account, you can currently get an offer that gives you 50,000 miles just for using the card once, plus there are some additional perks as well (more details available on Flyertalk).
About a month after I got the card, it came to my attention that the credit card offer had been updated to include a $50 statement credit. Chase will often give you the new offer within about 90 days of your original application, but only if you know to ask.
So I sent a nice e-mail to Chase customer service through their Secure Message Center, asking if they can give me the same offer that new applicants were receiving. In less than a week, this was the reply I received:
Thank you for your recent inquiry on your United
MileagePlus Explorer credit card account.
As you requested, we have applied a $50.00 statement
credit to your account. You will see this adjustment on
your next billing statement.
If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.
And that’s it. I made $50 for taking 30 seconds to fire off a quick e-mail. If you have recently signed up for the Chase United credit card, or any other Chase card, check around to see if there are any new offers you might be able to take advantage of. It could be more miles or a credit, but either one is great. It doesn’t hurt to ask politely, and you just might find yourself with $50 to spend on your next trip.
